Park is one three areas of tidal flats which are important habitats for waders. They are a significant component of the Swan/Canning Estuary, a wetland of national importance.

The City has a continuous line of regionally significant bushland and wetland on its southern and lower western foreshores. Walk paths and boardwalks enable most of the acres to be visited.

Gardens are ideal for a place to sit, reflex and provides a relaxing sensory experience for visitors. The seasonal Paperbark Wetland walk is a reminder of how much of Sir James Mitchell Park appears prior to European Settlement.
